RMES is continuously establishing collaborations with different institutions to offer a continued training.

The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Sant Pau University Hospital (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona) offer
6 to 12 month fellowship to do a clinical immersion and to specialise in the breast reconstruction surgery.

DESCRIPTION

During this period the fellow will be totally integrated in the Plastic Surgery Department, joining in all the clinical activities, outpatients, word-rounds, operating rooms, journal clubs, training labs…

DESCRIPTION
The Fellowship places are according to availability of the Plastic surgery Department. Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. The duration is 6 – 12 months. Different tasks will be developed in order to obtain specialization in breast surgery fields:

  • Different types of breast reconstruction will be developed including autologous (pedicled flaps, free flaps and perforator flaps), implant breast reconstruction, and breast cancer oncoplastic approaches.
  • The Surgical approach of the Lymphedema, techniques of breast reduction and mastopexy, implant breast augmentation procedures, revisional breast surgery and fat grafting will be performed by the different members of the department.

FELLOWSHIP GOALS
We also encourage the fellow to join at the research activities of the Department.

ELIGIBILITY
Plastic Surgeons or last year training in Plastic Surgery.

FELLOWSHIP FEE

  • 6 months: 3.600 euro
  • 12 months: 7.200 euro

DESCRIPTION

Lymphedema surgery research is an emerging field that needs to be done to document the prevalence of lymphedema and to help understand its pathology. We also need to do research on ways of preventing this problem and on developing effective treatment options when lymphedema occurs.

DESCRIPTION
The Fellowship starts yearly the 3 rd week of September and runs until the 2 nd week of June, exceptionally it could be extended for 6 weeks more. This working period is divided in two main areas:

  • Participating in ongoing basic and clinical research or developing some new research projects.
  • Following an educational program on lymphedema surgical training for qualified plastic surgeons with microsurgical experience. This training opportunity will provide experience with a broad spectrum of clinical cases, emphasizing the planning and execution of microsurgical solutions for lymphatic disorders. The operative experience can be tailored to meet specific needs/interests of the fellow.

FELLOWSHIP GOALS
The purpose of this fellowship is to develop a basic science, translational or clinical reseach project in the area of lymphedema / lymphatic dysfunction. The BLRF also links with other international researchers to conduct joint projects.
Fellow is expected to publish at least two articles in a peer-reviewed journal during the fellowship training program.

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates for the Fellowship Program must have completed plastic surgery training in an approved program in the European Union or have had comparable training and experience in foreign hospitals.

Applications should be requested 9 – 12 months prior to the start of the fellowship. Must be able to license through College of Physicians of Barcelona. Prior experience in microsurgery preferable and experience in clinical research desirable.

FELLOWSHIP FUNDS
The salary for this position is commensurate with institutional guidelines relative to the educational level of the individual involved (between 12.000 – 20.000 euros).

TIMELINE

  • 15th September 2018: Applicant registration begins.
  • 15th November 2018: Application deadline for all requirements for application and interview stats.
  • 15th December 2018: Selection results.
  • 23rd September 2019: Fellowship begins.
